Overview

The Problem: Recycling has an emphasis in Hawai’i with the common saying “malama i ka ‘aina,” meaning to care for and protect the land. UH Manoa is a large campus and albeit convenient to toss bottles/cans into trash bins, this does not effectively help with protecting the environment.

The Solution: The Cycle Sense application allows for users on campus to easily locate recyclable locations. A map is provided to users that is marked with icons indicating recyclable locations. Additionally, Bottles4College announcements will be posted and events will be listed.

• Find Nearest Bin (if we incorporate GPS)
• Sorting guide page
• Recycling impact statistics

Use case ideas

Whether or not the following bullet points list all pages or not, the completed use case should show an end-to-end scenario of using the system.

• Users goes to the home page, can navigate to announcements/map/sorting guide/statistics
• Admin logs in, goes to the home page, can navigate to announcements/map/sorting guide/statistics, and can add or remove pins in real time

Beyond the basics

After implementing the basic functionality, here are ideas for more advanced features;

• Allow users to place pins for newly found recycle bin locations
• A way to report overly full bins
